positive jams cover

We are part of an 18 track benefit compilation titled “Positive Jams” that is being released to aid Abra Hall who is fighting cancer. Positive Jams includes live full band Destroy Nate Allen recordings of Electrified and We Talk Occasionally On The Internet.  We are stoked to rocking alongside tracks from Elway, Absent Minds, Abolitionist, Pageripper (fools rush, partners 818), Southtowne Lanes, Matt Danger (Ninjas-With-Syringes), Hides and Don Peyote.

Dying scene had this to say:

The album is available now via Bandcamp for $5 or a donation of your choice and includes Elway track, “The Salt and the Sea.” Featured is a rare live Destroy Nate Allen recording with a horn and keys in the background, which they toured with for only a very short while after their latest album “With Our Powers Combined.”

Fairbanks News Miner Article!

FAIRBANKS – Destroy Nate Allen doesn’t sound like the name of a band that would perform uplifiting, energetic folk-chant music. But with all the energy and intensity that front-man Nate Allen puts into it, maybe it is physically destroying him a little bit.

Known for his aggressive, in-your-face performances, Allen usually performs as a duo with his wife, Tessa. But Allen will be solo when he visits Alaska next week.

Allen is more than a full-time student, taking 26 credits at two Portland, Ore., schools, trying to complete bachelor’s and associate’s degrees at the same time. This week is his spring break, and he’s using it to perform.

“I’m leaving my laptop at home,” he said on the phone, while walking to class in Portland.

Allen has toured in the Lower 48 with bands like The Builders and The Butchers, Mythological Horses and The Scurvies, based out of Alaska. It was The Scurvies that convinced Allen he should come to Alaska.

“They keep saying ‘come to Alaska,’ so I decided to take charge,” he said.

Allen started his music career as a solo act, playing soft, acoustic music. He later realized that a lot of his solo stuff was based on foundations that were rooted in bitterness and fear, even if the music didn’t actually speak to those things.

So he decided to focus on that bitterness and fear and on his “personal brokeness.” His music morphed into what it is now, and since he went by “Nate Allen” he figured he needed a new moniker.

“Destroying his band name,” he said about his new name. “It’s very flippant and spunky.”

The change in the name also represented a change in his performance style. He had been standard acoustic folk. But after he did a solo U.S. tour in 2007, he realized that in order to make enough money to get to the next city, he had to stand out.

It didn’t help that he developed pneumonia days before the tour started. His natural style was already quiet, so he had to up the ante if he wanted to continue.

“It was not intentional, but I thought ‘If I have four songs to win this audience, what can I do?’” he said. “Climb on something? Or go stand on them?”

So that’s what he did.

Always a fan of pop songs, many of his tunes are inspired by three-chord hooks. That plays into the catchy nature of his folk chants.

He said that his solo show is generally just as high energy but with songs that are more introspective. His song selection is broader, too. When he performs with his wife, they have a set list that theY tend to stick with.

But even if the show is unexpected and even a little crazy, he hopes people leave feeling good.

“It’s guaranteed to show you a good time,” he said. “What I really value is making people feel like they’ve spent their time well.”

Jeff Suffering House Show!

I attended Tomfest in 1998. The event forever changed my life. For the first time I was exposed to all sorts of punk rock. On the last day, I watched Jeff Suffering and Ninety Pound Wuss roll on the floor and bleed all over everything. I was blown away. Jeff was and still is the best front man I’ve ever seen.

On Feb. 19th, Jeff is playing an acoustic set at our house! If you would of told me this is 1998, I would of asked you what a house show was and called you a liar! I’m nicer now. I think you should do yourself a favor and come hang out at our house!

Music starts at 7 Pm. This show is $5, Family Friendly and going to amazing!

We look forward to seeing you.

Nate Allen

June / July US Tour Canceled!

Long story short we have to cancel our summer touring plans.

About two weeks ago, it was discovered my wife/bandmate Tessa had a ruptured appendix. They ended up doing emergency surgery on her abdomen and in addition to removing the remains of her appendix; they also removed parts of her colon, and small intestine. She’s expected to make a full recovery but ended up spending 11 days in the hospital.

Our best guess is that she ruptured her appendix 6 days before she was admitted – in those 6 days she played 2 shows with a rupture appendix!

We’ve decided to hold off all out of town shows until August so she can properly recover. We had a full US tour booked with Tyler aka Insomniac Folklore (www.myspace.com/insomniacfolklore). We were also set to play a week of shows with our friends Andrew Jackson Jihad (www.myspace.com/andrewjacksonjihad). Both bands are still going on tour so please support them when they come to your towns!

Until Tessa’s fully recovered all I’ll be playing all Destroy Nate Allen show’s solo. This has been a major wake up call for us. We’ll be staying pretty low key for a while and making some big changes.

We had planned to release a new triple EP and a7” this month and I’m not sure when these will be coming out now. But in the mean time http://www.facebook.com/destroynateallen has a new recording of Turns Out You’re Perfect For Me, that we recorded last year in Richmond, Virginia.

Thanks for understanding.

If you live with in 100 miles of Portland you best get your booty to The Rodgers House on March 12th..

He’ll be on tour with a full band supporting his new full length “A Mouth Full of Dust”, which is very much a rock n’ roll record. Also performing are Backseat Goodbye and Blacksmith of Glory.
