PUNK ROCK Is About COMMUNITY: NXNW Release PARTY!

nxnw records 2

*WE ARE PLAYING ON FRIDAY. We were originally scheduled to play on Saturday.

The best thing about punk rock is friendship. This weekend we’ll be joining some of our favorite bands to celebrate a release weekend for NXNW Records. Here is a run down on why you should come out @ 9 PM to see everyone rock starting on Friday at Katie O’ Brien’s and then come back on Saturday to have fun all over again.

Friday Highlights:

Callow – This smooth rocking Bay Area duo are celebrating the release of a new album. I normally don’t love music this chill but Callow puts me in a great mood and is not to be missed. Check the tunes.

Attica! Attica! – Aaron is a kindred spirit. I can’t recommend his folky-punk highly enough. He’s one our favorites in the country. We’re stoked to be rocking with him again. It’s been too long. Check the tunes.

Danger Death Ray – We shared our first 7″ with DDR and have played many a house show with these fine gentlemen over the years. Come see them play a rare acoustic set. Check the tunes.

Tuck and Roll will cap off the night with a high energy set sure to make your 90′s punk rock spirit come alive. Get ready to sweat. Check the tunes.

Details are posted on pc-pdx.com and our shows page. Here is the facebook event.

Saturday Highlights:

The Tanked – I have known the Tanked since their day’s in the Misfats. You’d be hard pressed to find a better drinking band in Portland. They will close the night in style. You don’t want to miss this! Check it out.

Sam Fisher – Sam is from Tuck and Roll. He’ll be ripping out a set of his new acoustic tunes. Check it out.

Matt Schoch – I dig Matt’s blue grassy new record. Check it out.

Danger Death Ray (electric set).

Details are posted on pc-pdx.com. Here is the facebook event for Saturday.

NXNW Records put our first 7″.  You can listen to it HERE or purchase one of the last copies HERE.

Sabbatical is a Four Letter Word

Hi Everybody.

We’re hitting the road again in a few weeks. You can view the tour dates over on our shows page.  This tour will be a little different for us on many fronts. After 700 shows in 5 years, this will the last Destroy Nate Allen tour before we take a sabbatical from the road. I don’t know when we will be back out across the US. We’ve been running non-stop for the last several years. We’re ready for a break. We’ll still be playing locally and regionally but our bodies just need a rest from extended van life for a season.  Our goal for our upcoming tour is to hit to hit many of the places we haven’t been in a while and we have many fun ideas planned for this tour. We’ve spent the last month doing tour prep almost everyday.  If you know anyone if these towns or you can help with booking or promotion in any way please drop us a line at destroynateallen@gmail.com. We can’t wait to see everyone!

We fly down to the bay area tomorrow and we’ll be back in Portland on Tuesday. This is gonna be a crazy weekend we’re shooting for 19 songs in 3 studio days. Wish us & GnarBoots luck!

Much Love!

Nate & Tessa Allen

Here are a few bands that have recorded at The Atomic Garden:

Broadway Calls, Dead To Me, Classics of Love (Jessie from Operation Ivy), Joyce Manor, Comadre, Big Kids, Heart Sounds and many more.

Hip-Hop vs. Punk Rock!

I met Sam from the Illusionists right around 9-11. His band high school band EPD came down from Eugene to play my high school band Milesmouthguard’s CD Release show. Somehow a borrowed bass amp caught fire and the fire department was called.

I’m super stoked for this show. All 6 bands are fantastic and we’re playing our favorite garage! This is our first all-ages show in N. Portland since May. Tell everyone let’s have a blast! – Nate

Folklore! Narcissism! Destruction!

Digital release of the Insomniac Folklore / Destroy Nate Allen / Self Proclaimed Narcissist triple split EP hits Bandcamp today!!

Read All About It:

Our friends Danielle & Michael wrote a critical / joke of an essay about Destroy Nate Allen, Insomniac Folklore and Self Proclaimed Narcissist. At first the essay stung a bit and then lightening struck!!!!

We had to release a split EP that included this amazing essay as the only liner notes. The album had to include “covers” and “originals” by all three bands. It’s hard to say who wrote which songs… it’s all become one big joke and I love it.

You see Tyler, Eric and I are all from the same small Oregon town of Roseburg. We’ve been friends for years and in more ways than one we’ve probably inspired each other to be more creative. I know I’ve stolen an idea or 2 over the years.

So with that in mind we have unleashed what is probably the most narcissistic album in history. The art is packed full of epic and awkward photos and comes complete with an amazing essay exposing the dark side of Folklore, Narcissism and Destruction.

I’m also pretty stoked because I was able to design the artwork which if I do say so myself is worth the free cost of the download.

To collect all 9 songs and read the essay you must visit:

So there you have it, the first scavenger hunt in the history of Destroy Nate Allen!

Fairbanks News Miner Article!

FAIRBANKS – Destroy Nate Allen doesn’t sound like the name of a band that would perform uplifiting, energetic folk-chant music. But with all the energy and intensity that front-man Nate Allen puts into it, maybe it is physically destroying him a little bit.

Known for his aggressive, in-your-face performances, Allen usually performs as a duo with his wife, Tessa. But Allen will be solo when he visits Alaska next week.

Allen is more than a full-time student, taking 26 credits at two Portland, Ore., schools, trying to complete bachelor’s and associate’s degrees at the same time. This week is his spring break, and he’s using it to perform.

“I’m leaving my laptop at home,” he said on the phone, while walking to class in Portland.

Allen has toured in the Lower 48 with bands like The Builders and The Butchers, Mythological Horses and The Scurvies, based out of Alaska. It was The Scurvies that convinced Allen he should come to Alaska.

“They keep saying ‘come to Alaska,’ so I decided to take charge,” he said.

Allen started his music career as a solo act, playing soft, acoustic music. He later realized that a lot of his solo stuff was based on foundations that were rooted in bitterness and fear, even if the music didn’t actually speak to those things.

So he decided to focus on that bitterness and fear and on his “personal brokeness.” His music morphed into what it is now, and since he went by “Nate Allen” he figured he needed a new moniker.

“Destroying his band name,” he said about his new name. “It’s very flippant and spunky.”

The change in the name also represented a change in his performance style. He had been standard acoustic folk. But after he did a solo U.S. tour in 2007, he realized that in order to make enough money to get to the next city, he had to stand out.

It didn’t help that he developed pneumonia days before the tour started. His natural style was already quiet, so he had to up the ante if he wanted to continue.

“It was not intentional, but I thought ‘If I have four songs to win this audience, what can I do?’” he said. “Climb on something? Or go stand on them?”

So that’s what he did.

Always a fan of pop songs, many of his tunes are inspired by three-chord hooks. That plays into the catchy nature of his folk chants.

He said that his solo show is generally just as high energy but with songs that are more introspective. His song selection is broader, too. When he performs with his wife, they have a set list that theY tend to stick with.

But even if the show is unexpected and even a little crazy, he hopes people leave feeling good.

“It’s guaranteed to show you a good time,” he said. “What I really value is making people feel like they’ve spent their time well.”

Jeff Suffering House Show!

I attended Tomfest in 1998. The event forever changed my life. For the first time I was exposed to all sorts of punk rock. On the last day, I watched Jeff Suffering and Ninety Pound Wuss roll on the floor and bleed all over everything. I was blown away. Jeff was and still is the best front man I’ve ever seen.

On Feb. 19th, Jeff is playing an acoustic set at our house! If you would of told me this is 1998, I would of asked you what a house show was and called you a liar! I’m nicer now. I think you should do yourself a favor and come hang out at our house!

Music starts at 7 Pm. This show is $5, Family Friendly and going to amazing!

We look forward to seeing you.

Nate Allen
